B1–B2 Guide:
Build University Skills
A B1 or B2 level is a great foundation. University studies need "Academic English" — more formal and faster. Follow this 4-step plan to prepare for your undergraduate journey.
Where Your Level Fits
| Level | What You Can Do | University Readiness |
|---|---|---|
| B1 (Intermediate) | Understand everyday English, simple lectures | Needs extra prep or foundation year |
| B2 (Upper-Intermediate) | Read textbooks, write essays, discuss ideas | Good for most undergraduate programs |
| C1 (Advanced) | Handle complex research and long lectures | Strong for all university work |
Your goal: Reach B2 → comfortable university classes!
Understand Your Level

01
Active Textbook Reading
Textbooks are dense. Practice "Active Reading" to avoid getting lost.
- Read one chapter per week without a dictionary.
- Summarize each section in 1 sentence.
- Start with "Executive Summaries" of topics.
02
Academic Essay Structure
Universities look for structure over "fancy" words. Stick to the classic 5-paragraph model.
- Write 250 words every weekend.
- Focus on "Linking Words" (However, Therefore).
- Have an AI tool check your grammar for patterns.
03
Lecture Note-Taking
Don't try to write every word. Write the "Keywords" and relationships.
- Watch 10 mins of a TED Talk daily.
- Map ideas using a "Mind Map" style.
- Turn off subtitles after the first 5 mins.
