Why These Words Matter

Studies show that knowing high-frequency academic vocabulary helps you understand 80–90% of university-level texts without constant dictionary use. The Academic Word List (AWL) contains 570 word families used across subjects like science, business, and social sciences.

You don’t need to learn all 570 right away. Start with Sublist 1 — the most common ones. Mastering these will make lectures easier to follow and essays sound more academic.
